One of our icons has pride of place during Black History Month; that of Dr Martin Luther King. He is depicted holding a placard with a prisoner number on it, a visual reference to his stay in the Birmingham jail.
The anthem sung by the choir last week was carefully chosen; the line “free the prisoner” was repeated, along with lines calling for peace, justice, and equality.
We are all prisoners, in a way. We must strive to free each other and ourselves from the chains that bind us.
