From “A Bishop for Chicago,” the latest news:
The Bishop Search Committee is pleased to report that the application and nomination process was fruitful, and that we now are well into the process or reviewing and evaluating applications. Telephone interviews over the next month will be followed by site-site visits to the applicants’ current ministries.
A set of bulletin inserts is available on the bishop search web site at www.bishopforchicago.org. Congregations are encouraged to use these inserts to educate their members about the search process.
Following the public announcement of nominees in late August, a petition process will allow for other candidates to stand for election. Candidates will be presented to the Church in a series of October meetings throughout the Diocese, and delegates to the Diocesan Convention will select the next Bishop on November 10. A Transitions Committee chaired by Shawn Schreiner and Wayne Carlson will manage the election itself, and their work now centers around researching venues for consecration or investiture in early 2008.
